Returning home to this?
Mum and Dad came to pick me up at KL Sentral. We drove out to see this ongoing demonstraton. Wow! Al Jazeera reported this as a protest by Bersih, 71 NGOs, demanding a change in electoral rules so that we can have free and fair elections. Pictures of the FRU spraying foam on protestors have been played over and over on Al Jazeera. Curiously, BBC has not said a peep on it's website. I haven't watched the news over on BBC News on TV yet.
Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin was interviewed by Al Jazeera by telephone and I'm not sure what he was trying to say. He sounded livid and incoherent. And I think the journalist made the most of it, as they would. I think our Cabinet Ministers need to get better press advisors. ;-)

my dad saw it too, on the way back to work .. didn't know that so many NGOs are involved! hmmm ... been thinking, should i really vote ?
9:42 PM
savante; drove past it when Mum and Dad came to pick me up so I thought I'd post it quick since it was current.
zewt; hmmm
imbi & itchy; Let's put it this way. If you don't vote, nothing will change. If you do, there is that chance - no matter how small it seems - it will. Because enough of us have spoken up. So I would vote.

well, because of it, all major highways leading into KL was totally backed up for hours on end. took me 2 1/2 hours to get from PJ to Bukit Antarabangsa (Ampang), which is usually a 45 minute drive.
Welcome back, good to have you back with us!
11:33 PM

Welcome home!
Looking forward to catching up soon - but get over your jetlag first.
Interestingly, Suhakam has (kind of) come up on the side of the police.
So, hopefully both sides acted responsibly ...
And, yes, vote.

sorta saw the Al Jazeera reports and am wondering if it was over sensationalised....water canons and tear gas are not the WORST weapons in their arsenal. So I do believe there was restraint shown. Relative to what it was like the LAST time.
1:28 PM
yeah..same thing happened to me too..heard about these though the next day..came back on sunday nite..
3:06 AM
What a welcome!!! Still jet-lag???
3:52 PM
joe; I got back on Sat afternoon and the demos were in full swing.
jackson; it looked pretty bad on Al Jazeera but I think it was a mixed response. On the one hand I think it was unneccesary to use water canons and tear gas on a peaceful crowd. But on the other hand, it could have been rubber bullets or even real ones.
wmw; still jet lagged. but not too bad today. Was worse Monday and Tuesday.
2:48 AM
